“As we begin celebrating 20 years of service in Israel, we want to thank our customers and employees who have helped make United the top US airline serving Israel,” said Patrick Quayle, vice president of international network at United Airlines. “We thank the Israeli government for its ongoing support and partnership. We look forward to continuing to serve Israel with this new service for our customers traveling between the US capital and one of the most advanced science and technology sectors in the world.”

Israel’s strong technology, biotechnology, life sciences, pharmaceuticals and defense industries will also bring cargo opportunities to the airline.

United Airlines has continuously served Israel since August 1999, when the airline began daily service between Newark hub and Tel Aviv. The frequency was increased to twice daily in 2004. In March 2016, United began flying to Tel Aviv from San Francisco with a 787-9 three times a week, later increasing the service to daily in October. Earlier this year, the airline began operating its new 777-300ERs to Tel Aviv, seasonally from San Francisco and year-round from Newark.
