Dachser has set up regular air freight charters connecting Shanghai and Frankfurt for the peak season.

According to the company, the charters are operated by a Boeing 747 freighter offering a capacity of 105 tonnes, avoiding capacity bottlenecks during the tight peak season and reducing lead times.

The team in China recently loaded a garment order which would have required 10 40-foot sea freight containers. The air freight charter allowed the garments to reach the shop much faster and needed less effort to handle.

“Air freight charters can be an attractive transport solution for our customers during the busy peak season,” said Yves Larquemin, managing director of air and sea logistics in North China at Dachser. “While such a big shipment normally has to be separated in several partial deliveries, Dachser can move the entire order within one single delivery.”

Dachser handled a total of 81.7 million shipments weighing 39.8 million tonnes in 2017.
