Orient Overseas Container Line has taken delivery of its newest 8,888 TEU vessel, named the OOCL Genoa.
The ship, which was built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., was christened at Hudong’s shipyard on Changxing Island in Shanghai.
“In today’s extremely competitive environment, cost and operational efficiency is paramount to our performance and these magnificent vessels, like that of OOCL Genoa which we are about to unveil, plays a very important part to our success,” said Alan Tung, acting CFO of OOCL (International) Limited. “OOCL Genoa, together with the other seven sister vessels being built here at Hudong, will form part of our core fleet and play an important role in allowing OOCL to maintain its competitive edge in the market.”
The 335m-long OOCL Genoa will be deployed on the South China 2 service of the trans-Pacific trade lane. The 42-day round trip will consist of the following port rotation: Da Chan Bay – Hong Kong – Yantian – Kaohsiung – Long Beach – Xiamen – Hong Kong – Da Chan Bay.
