SOUTH KOREA ISSUES REEFER HANDLING GUIDELINE FOR DANGEROUS GOODS

The Busan Fire Defence Department has issued a guideline for the handling of dangerous goods in reefer containers by all sea and inland terminals in South Korea.

Under the new rules, reefers containing dangerous goods must not be plugged in or stored at terminals, since no South Korean terminal currently satisfies the requirements laid out by the Korean Fire Defense Law.

As a result, applicable reefers must either be picked up straight after they are offloaded from vessels or gated in just before loading. Reefers being transhipped are not permitted to be discharged from vessels.
