ALASKA AIR CARGO SAYS ON-TRACK TO LAUNCH NEW ICARGO SYSTEM IN OCTOBER

Alaska Air Cargo announced that it is on track to launch the new iCargo system this October.

In a brief statement, the freight carrier said with the new iCargo technology, doing business with Alaska Air Cargo will look a little different by the end of the year.

"This is an ambitious year, with changes coming to our entire operation," the carrier said.

"We are on track to launch the new iCargo system in October," it added, noting that iCargo will create even more opportunities for growth in the years ahead.

Process changes for AWB numbers

In preparation for the launch of our new iCargo booking system, Alaska Air Cargo said it will temporarily stop issuing blocks of airway bills (AWBs) on September 1.

It added that previously issued AWB numbers will be valid until September 22, and its online booking system will close on September 23 as the carrier transitions to the new system.

"On Monday, October 9, our new online booking system will open for shipments that depart after our new system launches Saturday, October 21," Alaska Air Cargo added, noting that more details will be sent in the weeks ahead.

It noted, however, that international shipments and domestic shipments containing live animals or human remains will be embargoed in the days before and after launch.

"Improving the efficiency and transparency of our system requires resetting our current AWB numbering sequences. Previously issued AWB numbers will not work in our new system, which will issue new AWB numbers," Alaska Air Cargo added.

It reiterated that after September 22, customers should discard any unused AWBs.
