AMI UK HANDLES 8 MILLIONTH SHIPMENT
December 1, 2016

The UK branch of air freight and express wholesaler AMI has received the booking for its 8 millionth booking.

According to AMI UK, the booking came from AMI Express customer Kepair and was for a shipment to Australia.

“When AMI was first launched 40 years ago, nobody expected that we would one day be celebrating 8 million shipments,” said Sharon Wright, VP of Europe at AMI. “But we send hundreds of tonnes of cargo every week, to 200+ destinations around the world, including 80 regular consol services. So the numbers continue to build up. Although our consolidations have traditionally targeted the most price-sensitive traffic, our customers’ focus is increasingly on the additional services we provide; so we regularly add new features and options to our online booking portal. Today, AMI is a far more complex offering than it was in the early days.”

AMI Express, whose share of AMI UK’s business grew by 5% in 2016, now only receives bookings online for its click2ship integrator-style product.

“The lessons we have learned in the process of creating and refining AMI Express click2ship have been invaluable in steering our entire business here and around the world,” said Wright. “The result is a faster, more customer-friendly and transparent service that is proving particularly relevant to our increasing engagement in e-commerce.”

Australia was the company’s first major export market, according to AMI.
