APL reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by 48% in 2016 compared to its base level in 2009, the seventh year in a row in which the shipping line has improved its environmental performance.

According to APL, the result was verified by Lloyd’s Register Group in accordance with the Clean Cargo Working Group verification protocol and the ISO14064-3:2006 standard.

“APL is pleased to register our best carbon reduction performance as yet, improving our fleet emission level by about 3%, versus our reduction in 2015,” said Nicolas Sartini, chief executive officer of APL. “APL prides ourselves as a responsible carrier and will persevere in our pursuits of environmental excellence as we facilitate global trade.”

APL aims to reduce CO2 emissions per container transported by 30% from 2015 to 2025, a target set by the CMA CGM Group. APL will also continue developing cold-ironing and ballast water treatment technology.
