United Arab Shipping Company has announced that it will launch a service linking Northern Europe to the East Coast of the U.S., and that it has placed an order for 3,500 reefer containers.
The new route, which UASC is calling NEU1, will be a weekly service calling at Le Havre, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Southampton and Bremerhaven in Europe and New York, Norfolk, Charleston and Savannah on the U.S. East Coast.
“As an emerging global carrier that places customer service at the very heart of our operations, we are continuously exploring enhanced geographical reach and improved products, whilst always safeguarding reliability and service excellence,” said Jørn Hinge, president and CEO at UASC in a statement. “The U.S. East Coast markets provide a significant opportunity for UASC and its customers and these new service offerings mark an important step in UASC’s evolution as well as giving a sense of our longer term aspirations.”
Additionally, UASC has ordered 3,500 more Daikin reefer containers, having recently taken delivery of 2,000.
“In terms of quality, performance and reliability, our latest reefer order comprises one of the industry’s most eco-efficient and reliable units,” said Gareth Madsen, head of reefer management at UASC. “The second phase of new reefer units will support the growth of existing services and enhanced geographic access following new partnership with CMA CGM and Hamburg Süd to enter the North Atlantic trade, linking Northern Europe with the United States East Coast.”
