March 1, 2018

Lufthansa Cargo’s environmental management systems have been awarded with the ISO14001 certification by the International Organization for Standardization.

According to Lufthansa Cargo, the company was audited according to the revised and more demanding version of the standard, which contains a number of changes and updates that were previously not explicitly required.

“We worked together with the various departments to successfully implement the standard’s more stringent requirements with respect to risk determination, stakeholder orientation and life cycle assessment, including supplier management,” said Bettina Jansen, head of environmental management at Lufthansa Cargo. “As an airline, we have a special responsibility to our environment. We live up to this responsibility through our ambitious environmental targets, especially in areas of particular environmental relevance, such as flight operations, cargo handling and infrastructure.”

The new certification includes Lufthansa Cargo’s operations around the world, ULD subsidiary Jettainer and urgent logistics subsidiary time:matters.

The certification process began in Frankfurt in 2008 before being gradually expanded. All German stations have been certified since 2010, while worldwide certification was achieved in 2015, according to Lufthansa Cargo.
