Delta Air Lines is to launch a non-stop flight between Minneapolis/St. Paul and Seoul and another between Seattle and Osaka, but will also terminate its non-stop flight between Seattle and Hong Kong.
According to the airline, the new flight to Seoul will begin in 2019 with a Boeing 777-200ER and will be operated in partnership with joint venture partner Korean Air.
“Delta’s future is global and adding another non-stop flight to the joint venture’s Seoul-Incheon hub with Korean Air expands on our long-term vision,” said Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta. “This will be a great driver of international commerce for the Minneapolis/St. Paul community and the state of Minnesota, as well as benefitting our customers, our employees and our owners.”
The flight will be Delta’s second trans-Pacific route from its Minneapolis/St. Paul hub, addin to the existing service to Tokyo Haneda. Schedule details will be released by Delta at a later date.
The trans-Pacific joint venture between Delta and Korean Air offers a combined route network of 27 peak-day flights between the US and Asia.
Separately, the new non-stop flight between Seattle and Osaka will also begin in 2019 with a 767-300ER. Schedule details will be released at a later date.
Delta currently operates a daily non-stop service between Honolulu and Osaka. The new flight will be included in the Korean Air JV, which serves 12 destinations in Japan.
Delta’s last flight from Hong Kong to Seattle will be on October 4, 2018. The carrier will continue to serve Hong Kong from Seattle via Seoul with Korean Air.
