AIR BERLIN CANCELS US$5 BILLION BOEING ORDER
October 20, 2014

The second-largest carrier in Germany has cancelled an order for 33 Boeing passenger aircraft worth US$5 billion. Air Berlin says it will not purchase 18 single-aisle 737 aircraft and 15 787 aircraft. In a statement, the airline said that the termination agreement does not include any compensation to Boeing from Air Berlin.
Air Berlin is partly owned by Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways. Air Berlin already booked a bottom-line profit of €8.6 million (US$10.8 million) in the period from April to June, compared with a loss of €38 million (US$47.9 million) a year earlier.
