A Boeing 767-300 converted freighter operated by Atlas Air for Amazon Air has crashed in Trinity Bay near Houston.

The aircraft, registered N1217A, was operating flight 5Y3591 en route from Miami and was on approach to Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Three people were on board.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected,” said Bill Flynn, CEO of Atlas Air. “This is a sad time for all of us. Our team continues to work closely with the NTSB, the FAA and local authorities on the ground in Houston. We would like to commend the efforts of all of the first responders. We sincerely appreciate their efforts and support in the investigation.”

Radar and radio contact with the 767 was lost approximately 30 miles southeast of the airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The aircraft was manufactured in 1992 and converted in 2017.

Atlas Air signed a long-term agreement in 2016 to operate 20 767-300 freighters for Amazon on a CMI basis.
