The Port of Colombo has surpassed the 5-million-container mark for the first time in its history.
From January to November 2015, the port handled 4,742,652 TEUs, a 5.9% growth compared to the same period in 2014. Transhipment cargo accounted for 76.6% of the total throughput.
The total number of container vessels calling at the port from January to November 2015 has also increased by 12.7% to 3,333.
