July 14, 2022

Tanzania International Container Terminal Services (TICTS), a member of Hutchison Ports, announced that the terminal has once again broken its monthly throughput record.

The throughput at TICTS for June reached 61,450 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) edging out record productivity earlier recorded in March.

Hutchison Ports said in a statement that TICTS also had its most productive shift ever in June recorded on June 21 when the team managed to handle over 1,000 TEUs in a span of eight hours.

The terminal operator noted that its Tanzania container terminal also achieved productivity records at the gatehouse handling 38,283 moves in the month of June.

"We are very proud of our teams who achieved this new record. Our ultimate goal is to facilitate trade, minimize turnaround times. With this in mind, we are striving to ensure that the terminal can achieve these levels of productivity on an ongoing basis," said Matt Clifft, acting TICTS CEO.

TICTS has already invested over TSZ12.5 billion (US$5.36 million) in equipment this year and is keen to support the government with its long-term vision for the port.

Tanzania International Container Terminal Services (TICTS) operates the container terminal at the Port of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The Port of Dar es Salaam handles more than 90% of Tanzania's seaborne trade.
