June 5, 2023

Container throughput at Chinese ports has experienced a notable increase of 4.8% during the first four months of the year, signifying a positive trend in handling containerized goods at ports across China despite current macroeconomic challenges.

State media reported that in the January to April period, container throughput reached 95.43 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of containers, citing data from China's Ministry of Transport.

Total cargo throughput at China's ports stood at 5.28 billion tonnes in the same period, up 7.6% from the same period in 2022.

Meanwhile, cargo throughput for foreign trade rose 8.1% year-on-year, Xinhua said.

In April alone, the report said cargo throughput at China's ports jumped 11.8% year-on-year, while container throughput went up 8.6%.
