CHINA'S NINGBO-ZHOUSHAN PORT SAW CONTAINER VOLUME FOR JAN-OCT UP 4.5%

China's busiest port, the Port of Ningbo Zhoushan, saw its container volume hit 30.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in the first 10 months of 2023, up 4.51% year on year.

 

Cargo throughput for the January to October period rose 6.03% to 1.1 billion tonnes.

 

State media reported that at the end of October, the port operates over 300 container shipping routes, including 129 that are serving the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) between China and 149 countries.

 

The BRI is a large project aiming at improving regional cooperation through better connectivity among countries lying on the ancient Silk Road and beyond. It covers 44 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, 35 BRI countries in Europe & Central Asia, 25 BRI countries in East Asia & Pacific (including China), 21 countries in Latin America & Caribbean, 18 countries in the Middle East & North Africa, and six countries in South East Asia.

 

Meanwhile, the report said Port of Ningbo Zhoushan's sea-rail intermodal container transport service also saw steady growth in the first 10 months of the year, posting a 12.1% increase over the same period in 2022.
