PORT OF NY/NJ RECORD 5TH CONSECUTIVE MONTH OF CARGO GROWTH
May 30, 2024

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (Port of NY/NJ) hit another milestone as it capped its second-busiest busiest April of all time.

Likewise, the port recorded its fifth consecutive month of year-over-year growth, surpassing 700,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in April.

During the month, the seaport moved 709,473 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), a 9% increase from April 2023 and a 17% increase from April 2019.

"The growth was partially attributable to additional cargo diverted to the region following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore and the subsequent closure of the Port of Baltimore," Port of NY/NJ said.

The port said it also maintained its status as the second-busiest port in the nation for loaded imports and exports, handling 471,643 loaded TEUs in April 2024.

Through the first four months of 2024, the seaport is outperforming cargo volume from the same period in pre-pandemic 2019 by 13% and the same period in 2023 by 11%, it added.
