Turkish Airlines has awarded a cargo-handling contract for Johannesburg to Africa Flight Services.

Turkish operates a daily flight between Istanbul and Johannesburg using an Airbus A330-300, which AFS expects to result in more than 2,500 tonnes of cargo a year.

AFS already handles cargo for the airline’s daily A330-300 flight between Istanbul and Cape Town.

“Having served Turkish Airlines in Cape Town since July 2015, we have been able to demonstrate the quality and reliability of our cargo-handling services and this has clearly given the airline confidence to award us this additional contract in Johannesburg,” said Malcolm Tonkin, general manager of cargo for South Africa at AFS. “We now look forward to serving their cargo customers at both of our airport locations in South Africa.”
