Munich Airport reported that air freight continues to grow at the gateway with recent additional cargo capacity from Qatar Airways.

In a brief statement, one of Europe's busiest cargo hubs said with the increase of its cargo service between Munich and Doha from two to four weekly flights, Qatar Airways is doubling its capacity to the airport.

It added that all flights are operated on behalf of the logistics company DB Schenker — and one of the new rotations continues from Munich to Chicago Rockford and via Munich back to Doha.

"We welcome the expansion of our long-standing customer Qatar Airways. It once again demonstrates the growing importance of Munich as a cargo hub," said Markus Heinelt, director traffic development cargo at Munich Airport.

The latest development comes as the hub in mid-February announced a "massive" impact of strike action of united services union ver.di in connection with the ongoing collective wage negotiations in the public services sector.

The strike — which took place on February 17, 2023 — prompted Munich Airport to halt all passenger flights that day.
