ONE'S LARGEST CONTAINERSHIP MAKES PORT OF CALL AT HAMBURG
July 14, 2023

Port of Hamburg said the largest containership of Ocean Network Express (ONE) — "ONE Innovation" — will make a port call at the gateway on July 15.

The port, which is one of the busiest in Europe, remains a permanent fixture on the shipping lines' routes for the Megamax class.

"On July 15, the 'ONE Innovation', the first 24,000 TEU vessel of the ONE shipping company, will come to Hamburg," the announcement said.

ONE's containership has a length of 400 m and a width of 61.40 m, and it has a capacity of 24,136 TEUs — making it one of the few container ships that have so far exceeded the magic capacity limit.

"The shipping company's decision to call at the Port of Hamburg with its most modern ship shows that we have done our homework. For example, the terminal operators have state-of-the-art container gantry cranes to efficiently unload and load a ship of this size," said Axel Mattern, CEO of Port of Hamburg Marketing.

"In addition, shore power systems are currently being installed at the container terminals in the Port of Hamburg to make the ships' laytime more environmentally friendly," Mattern added.

The port noted that "ONE Innovation"  itself also ensures a better environmental balance with the modern design of the vessel aiming to maximise cargo capacity and minimise fuel consumption, succeeding in significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Port of Hamburg noted that the vessel is equipped with a bow windshield, an energy saving device and an exhaust gas cleaning system to meet IMO emission regulations.

It is also the first of six new Megamax vessels to join ONE's core fleet.

"With the 'ONE Innovation', our most modern container ship is coming to Hamburg. With the new series, we want to pave the way for the sustainable development of global logistics. Our 'Green Vision' aims to achieve a net zero balance by 2050. This helps city ports like Hamburg in particular," says Jan Holst, managing director of Germany at ONE.

The announcement said the ship would be deployed in the Asia-Europe service (liner service FE3) of the shipping company THE Alliance (THEA) — making Hamburg a regular port of call for the service.
