Qatar Aviation Services, a subsidiary of Qatar Airways, has joined the International Air Transport Association’s Ground Handling Council, which provides expertise on safe and efficient ground operations.

“This is a proud moment for QAS,” said Clive Sauvé-Hopkins, senior vice president of Qatar Aviation Services. “Becoming a member of the IATA Ground Handling Council is a significant milestone for our business and demonstrates how QAS has become an industry leader that is globally recognized for its capability and professionalism in the field of aviation services.”

QAS handles both passengers and cargo. In 2015, the cargo division, which also operates Qatar Airways’ cargo terminal, handled more than 1.2 million tonnes of freight, including 600 horses.

QAS passed its IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations in November 2014, according to the company.
